Sioux Falls S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Construction will lead the construction of the new indoor aquatic center at Spellerberg Park. The selection was made after a competitive request for proposals process.

“We are very pleased that a qualified local company will construct the first indoor aquatic center in our community,” says Don Kearney, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Sioux Falls Construction has the experience needed for a project like this as well as a love for our city that we know will make this a top-notch facility.”

Five companies submitted proposals by the deadline of August 7, and four were chosen for interviews on August 15.

“Sioux Falls Construction, a Journey Group Company, is proud to be the construction professional selected for the indoor aquatic center at Spellerberg Park,” says Randy Knecht, President/CEO of Journey Group Companies. “We are excited to partner with the City of Sioux Falls to provide the community a landmark aquatic facility they will enjoy for generations to come. Sioux Falls Construction has been fortunate to help define the landscape and skyline of Sioux Falls for over 104 years. We pride ourselves and gain great satisfaction from making our customer’s dreams come true.”

The construction manager contract is subject to the City Council’s approval. The next step in construction will be the securing of the site and demolition of the current outdoor pool, tennis courts, and other structures at the park. Demolition work will be completed by the City. The sand volleyball courts, picnic shelter, playground, portable restrooms, and sledding hill in the park will be available for public use the remainder of this year.
