SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The State of South Dakota has broadened the Compass Centers' responsibilities while cutting its grant funding for the last three years.
Executive Director Patti Brooks says with alternative sentencing the Center now offers counseling to prison rape and human trafficking victims and works with offenders.
Brooks says the funding cuts totalled $90,000 two years ago, $40,000 last year and $6,600 this year.
Brooks says new domestic violence laws encompassing significant romantic relationships will also mean more referrals.
The Compass Center’s mission is to break the cycle of domestic and sexual violence.
