SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Governor Daugaard is releasing a workforce summit report today outlining efforts to develop enough workers with the right skills to meet employer needs in South Dakota.

Daugaard says the report contains checklists for business, education, community and government to evaluate where they stand in workforce efforts.

Mary Medema, a workforce expert with the Sioux Falls Development Foundation says workforce challenges in booming Sioux Falls are really a problem of abundence. She says some businesses want to grow larger in the strong economy but have challenges finding enough workers. She says all the input from the summits contained in the final report will help develop an even better strategy for finding workers to fill jobs.

The Governor says that building South Dakota's workforce is a marathon not a sprint.  He says it's important for South Dakota's youth to realize the best return on education and skill building.  He says it's fine to pursue a dream but some jobs are more in demand and can offer an immediate position after graduation.

Daugaard also says the South Dakota needs to bring home workers who left the state in search of greener pastures.

Daugaard will deliver the final workforce report in Sioux Falls Wednesday afternoon at 3 at the Convention Center
