Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) You can take a flight back in time as part of the 75th anniversary celebration at Sioux Falls Regional Airport this weekend.
Executive Director Dan Letelier says you can purchase a ride on a fully restored 1937 DC-3, once the workhorse of passenger planes. There will also be free rides on smaller planes for children, lots of vintage planes and cars to gawk at, and a 1940s style dance in a hanger Saturday night.
Letelier says there have been many changes since the airport opened in September of 1939. He says it was a major part of the war effort during World War 2; there were more service members at the airport than there were people in Sioux Falls.
He says the next big milestone he hopes for is developing flights to Canada and Mexico to become Sioux Falls International Airport.
