TEA, S.D. (KELO-AM) - A Marion, S.D. woman died of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of S.D Highway 17 and 272nd Street two miles west of Tea on Saturday, September 20.
Caryl Ann Rand, 88, was eastbound on 272nd Street driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala. Glen Jorgen Danielsen, 56, of Viborg, S.D., was northbound on Highway 17 driving a 2012 GMC Acadia. East-west traffic is controlled by a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 17.
Rand failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, where her vehicle was struck by Danielsen’s vehicle. The collision sent both vehicles into the northeast ditch. Rand was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital where she died from injuries received in the crash.
Danielsen and two passengers in the Acadia received minor injuries. All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Tea Fire Department and Lennox Ambulance assisted.
