SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A Sioux Falls couple is out $22,000 on a scam call threatening their citizenship while another victim lost $2,000 in an I-R-S phone scam.
Officer Sam Clemens says both victims were told to use green-dot-cards. He says government institutions and reputable businesses don't accept those cards as payment.
Clemens says it’s virtually impossible to get the victim’s money back. He says green-dot-cards can cashed anywhere so there's no way to track the location.
Clemens advises hanging-up on anyone threatening you over the phone for late bill payments, IRS calls, financial issues or anytime the scammer mentions resolution with a green-dot-card.
