SIOUX FALLS, S.D (KELO AM) - Bel Brands initially eliminated South Dakota as a site for a cheese processing plant.
Pat Costello with the Governor’s Office of Economic Development says the state had to crawl its way back into consideration.
Costello says the state's ace-in-the-hole was the highly inovative dairy program at South Dakota State University. He says the area also has access to the amount of milk needed to make an incredible amount of cheese
The Brookings plant hosts a grand opening tomorrow entertaining state officials and Bel Brand officers from the USA and France.
Bel Brands expects to produce 1.5 million mini Babybels daily with 250 employees.
