Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center has installed a distributed antenna system (DAS) that will enhance coverage for the thousands of smartphone data users who will attend events in the facility. The City of Sioux Falls has partnered with InSite Wireless Group, LLC to service the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, Convention Center, and Arena. Verizon Wireless is the first wireless service provider to join the system designed to provide coverage in the three facilities.
“Even with 18,000 patrons throughout all the buildings, Verizon subscribers will benefit from the enhanced 4G LTE coverage,” says Robbie Veurink, Civil Engineer for the City of Sioux Falls. “This multimillion dollar system is the equivalent of two outdoor cell towers spread throughout the facilities, covering half a million square feet of serviceable area.”
The DAS is owned by InSite Wireless, which will manage the system and share rent revenue with the City of Sioux Falls. Wireless service providers enter into contracts with InSite Wireless to provide coverage in the facilities. The City’s ten-year agreement with InSite Wireless will generate revenue for the operation of the building.
The system was designed by InSite Wireless and installed by Muth Technologies, a local low‑voltage contractor. It is supported by 98 antennas throughout all three facilities and took four months to install. While capable of hosting multiple wireless service providers, Verizon is the first to join in this venture. InSite Wireless also is in talks with AT&T, Sprint, and other area wireless service providers to join the DAS to enhance coverage for their customers as well.
