SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - There are more deer/car accidents on Rice Street in Sioux Falls than on any other stretch of highway in South Dakota.

Police and Game, Fish and Parks are holding a fall, antlerless, archery season beginning October 2nd to thin the herd.

G-F and P Regional Supervisor Arden Peterson says the harvest is a management tool.  He says there are about 86 deer/car collisons each year in Sioux Falls.  There has been depredation of crops along Rice Street and keeping a herd small decreases the chances for disease.  He saw there was significant deer disease in herd along the Missouri River last year.

Peterson says hunters can apply for an access permit on the G-F and P website.

Hunters must also have a statewide antlerless license.

Hunters who are picked get to choose the dates of their hunt but not the location.
