SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls police and the Sheriff’s office investigated 1,239 domestic assault cases last year according to the Minnehaha County Family Violence Council.

Amy Carter says tomorrow is “Take Back the Night” with a candlelight vigil from the Old Courthouse Museum.  There will be dinner and a program along with the vigil. The event is free and Goodwill donations will be accepted in support of the Council.

Carter says it's important that victim's voices are heard by the public, lawmakers, authorities, the courts and counselors.

One in four women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime.
