Huron S.D. (KELO AM) - Registration is now open for South Dakota Farm Bureau's 97th annual meeting, set for November 21-22 in Sioux Falls. SDFB is the state's largest general agriculture organization, representing 14,300 farm, ranch and rural member families across the state. The theme is "Farm Bureau Proud.... and Growing!"
The agenda will kick off on Friday, Nov. 21 with opening ceremonies at 9:00 a.m., followed by a panel discussion about the recreational use of flooded private land. SDFB President Scott VanderWal will address the members at 11:30 a.m., followed by the "Our Farm Bureau" luncheon and District Caucuses. The SDFB Delegate Session will take place on Friday afternoon, with educational sessions offered to non-delegates during that time. The SDFB Young Farmers & Ranchers Committee will treat the attendees to a fun night of "Taste of Nashville" that evening.Saturday, Nov. 22 features many interesting speakers and topics. Greg Peterson of the internet-famous "Peterson Farm Brothers" will talk about how he and his brothers advocate for agriculture through their musical parodies of popular songs with their own farm-fresh lyrics.
Also on Saturday we'll hear from experts with RoboFlight about how drones may soon transform agricultural data-gathering and input decisions. John Anderson, Economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation, and Dr. Barry Dunn, Dean of the College of Ag at SDSU, will also be on the program. A "Saturday Special" one-day pass is available for only $45 if you cannot attend the entire convention but would like to come hear the speakers on Saturday. The one-day pass covers the sessions as well as the meals. Saturday evening is the "Farm Family Celebration Banquet" featuring a great meal and entertainment by Matt Rush, Executive Vice President of the New Mexico Farm & Livestock Bureau.
