SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - This week’s weather doesn’t hint at winter’s arrival but Wednesday, October 22, is Winter Weather Preparedness Day in South Dakota.
Meteorologist Todd Heitkamp says the nice weather makes it easy to prepare for winter. He says the extended winter forecast right now calls for more snow than average and warmer temperatures.
Heitkamp advises you have a fully stocked winter weather survival kit in all your vehicles and now is the time to have your furnace checked by a professional .Heitkamp says you should devise a plan for what you and your family will do in case of a storm. Have your car fully checked and winterized. He says it's important that you listen to weather forecasts and plan activities accordingly.
When traveling in winter weather, besides have a survival kit, let folks at your destination know when you're leaving and when they can anticipate your arrival.
