Top 10 sessions you won't want to miss at the SDFB annual meeting

Huron, SD (KELO AM) - The South Dakota Farm Bureau 97th Annual Meeting is November 21 and 22 at the Ramkota in Sioux Falls.  

There will be speakers and recommended events to attend:

Friday, Nov. 21

“Flooded Private Lands: Mine, Yours or Ours?” (9:45 a.m.)Panelists: Nathan Sanderson (Policy Advisor for Gov. Daugaard), Tony Leif (Director of Wildlife Division for SD Game Fish & Parks), Paul Shubeck (farmer, landowner, mediator with SD Dept of Ag), Jerry Mork (farmer, Day County landowner) 

97th Annual SDFB Delegate Session (1:30 p.m.)Delegates from County Farm Bureaus all across the state will gather to discuss policy directives for the coming year. Topics include: road and bridge funding, how to rein in the EPA, biotechnology, drones in agriculture, property rights, recreational use of flooded private land, the national beef checkoff, and more!

Saturday, Nov. 22

Greg Peterson of the “Peterson Farm Brothers” (9:00 a.m.) Greg Peterson is the oldest of the three “Peterson Farm Brothers,” farm boys from Kansas who have become Internet sensations with their musical parody videos with farm-fresh lyrics. They’ve turned fun into a seriously effective way to advocate for agriculture with the American public.“New Farm Bill Programs” (10:00 a.m.)ARC?  PLC?  Cut through the acronyms and get a down-to-earth description of what you need to know about the new farm programs from the 2014 Farm Bill.  With Larry Olsen, Executive Director of the Minnehaha County USDA Farm Service Agency.“New Beef Checkoff?” (10:00 a.m.)

John Anderson, Deputy Chief Economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation, will detail what’s going on with the National Beef Checkoff, including recent calls for changes and USDA Secretary Vilsack’s offer of a new checkoff.  “Technology Applications for Agriculture” (10:45 a.m.)Ryan Molitor, Raven Industries Ag Division, will demonstrate what technologies Raven has available for agriculture today and what is being developed for tomorrow.“Dakota Access Pipeline” (10:45 a.m.)Chuck Frey, VP of Engineering for Energy Transfer Partners, will discuss his company’s plans for the pipeline route through South Dakota, the process, how they will work with landowners, etc.“Matching Agronomy Research Production and Profit with Seed” (1:00 p.m.)Bill Even, past South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture and now Commercial Unit Lead Northern Business unit for DuPont Pioneer, will share cutting-edge insights on where seed traits area today, what is expected in the future, and what is needed to best serve South Dakota producers, climate and conditions.“Livestock & Crop Outlook” (1:50 p.m.)John Anderson, AFBF Deputy Chief Economist, will summarize the obstacles and opportunities for 2015.“Drones in Modern Agriculture” (3:15 p.m.)

Dr. Kevin Price, past Associate Director of the Kansas Applied Remote Sensing (KARS) program at Kansas State University, is a foremost expert on the use of drones in agriculture. Dr. Price, who is now with RoboFlight, will share how unmanned aerial systems can gather data to help pinpoint crop inputs.
