Sioux Falls, SD (KWSN)—The Stampede are proud to announce that forward Dakota Joshua has been named to the 2014 U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete in the 2014 World Junior A Challenge, Dec. 14-20, in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. All 21 players on the USA roster currently skate in the United States Hockey League (USHL). Click here to view the entire roster.
Joshua is in his second season with the Stampede and currently leads the team in scoring with 15 points (8g, 7a) in 14 games with the Herd. His eight goals rank fourth in the USHL and three of his goals are game winners. Last season, Joshua tallied 38 points (17g, 21a) in 55 games for the Herd.
This past summer, Joshua became the 28th former Stampede player to be drafted by an NHL club after being selected in the fifth round of the 2014 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Dearborn, MI native participated in the Maple Leafs Prospect Camp in July and has already committed to play collegiate hockey at Ohio State University next season.
The U.S. have won five of the last six tournaments (2008-10, 2012-13). Last season, C.J. Fraklin, Zeb Knutson and Dennis Kravchenko represented the Stampede and guided the U.S. to a Gold Medal. Team USA will open tournament play against Switzerland on December 15th. Canada East, Canada West, Denmark and Russia are the other teams in the tournament.
The Stampede return to action this Friday when they host the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05 PM at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. The first 2,000 fans will receive a FREE Stampede Koozie, compliments of AARP of South Dakota. Tickets are available through the KELOLAND Box Office or any Ticketmaster outlet.
