SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A 46-year-old woman was found dead Wednesday morning in the stairway enclosure on top of the parking garage near Sioux Falls City Hall.
Officer Sam Clemens says she did not have the proper clothing on for frigid temperatures and there were a couple of bottles of alcohol near the body, but they will wait for autopsy results to officially determine cause of death.
The woman was a frequent visitor to the Good Shepard Center in Downtown Sioux Falls, according to Director Maria Krell. Krell says that the last she knew, the woman lived in an apartment so she was not a "homeless, homeless" person, as Krell put it. Krell says the woman was a warm, caring person, who sometimes would give her own gloves to people who needed them.
The victim's name has not yet been released.
The latest numbers show that there are approximately 618 homeless people in Sioux Falls.
