Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - For 89 days an American flag that flew over the White House is making its way through all continental 48 states before reaching Sioux Falls, S.D. with an ultimate destination of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin on August 29, where the ride originated, Memorial Day weekend 2013. The Patriot Tour, a nationwide effort to honor past, present, and fallen military personnel and raise funds for the families of wounded veterans, the American flag that is being shepherded across the country by motorcycle, is coming to Sioux Falls today.
“J&L Harley-Davidson is proud host of the Patriot Guard Riders and Legion Riders of Sioux Falls as they receive the American Flag, in an official ceremony, from the Patriot Guard Riders of Norfolk, NE,” said Karissa Hackett, Marketing Director, J&L Harley-Davidson. “Today, between 2:30 and 3pm. the Sioux Falls Patriot Guard Riders, Legion Riders and the Harley Owners Group will transfer the flag where it will leave J&L Harley-Davidson for Watertown, S.D..”
“The Patriot Tour is largely out pacing last year’s phenomenal turn out in both participation and fundraising. Within a few short weeks, we have raised more support than the last four years combined and are halfway to our new goal of $100,000,” said Bill Sherer - Founder of the nonprofit and The Patriot Tour. “The entirety of the money will be distributed to families of wounded veterans across the nation before the end of the year.”
The ride launched from Wisconsin Harley-Davidson in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin on May 25 and has traveled some 14,000 miles through all 48 Continental United States escorted by nearly 100,000 participating riders before returning to where it all started.
