VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO AM) -- South Dakota State Senator Deb Peters of Hartford, S.D. will provide the keynote address at the University of South Dakota’s 39th Winter Commencement at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. More than 550 candidates will receive degrees during the ceremony at the DakotaDome on the USD campus.
Elected to the South Dakota Senate In 2010 after serving three terms in the House, Peters chairs the Joint Appropriations Committee. She is the incoming president for the Streamline Sales Tax Governing Board, Inc., an organization that manages a compact between 24 states aimed at making it easier to do business across state lines.
A C.P.A. for more than 17 years, Peters owns a business consulting company specializing in accounting and financial services for entrepreneurial companies. She helps start-up companies in addition to advising companies on issues with the Internal Revenue Service and various state regulations. She has experience auditing highly-regulated entities including, state governments, banks and insurance companies. Additionally, Peters is an active member of National Conference of State Legislators and co-chair of Standing Committees. She also serves as the vice-chair of the Executive Committee’s Task Force on State and Local Taxation.
Peters received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota in 1997. She and her husband, Chris, have been married for almost 18 years and have two sons, Derick, 15 and Braden, 13.
