SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Police say a 17-year-old Dell Rapids boy, who said he was shot in the leg during a robbery Saturday in the eastside Walmart parking lot, was actually the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officer Sam Clemens says the boy was alone in the car with a 22 caliber handgun while his mother was shopping.
Clemens says police don't know if the incident was an accident or if the boy wounded himself on purpose. After talking with investigators the boy admitted that he shot himself in the leg.
Clemens says the boy is charged with false reporting. He was treated and released that night.
