SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County Commission today approved a temporary medical waste storage operation at the corner of the Crooks-Renner exit.
Commissioner John Pekas facetiously asked County Planner Kevin Hoekman what will happen to the waste. Pekas asked if the waste would be incinerated or irradiated on site, knowing that both will not occur there. Hoekman confirmed Pekas' concern that this is just a holding site for medical waste that will go elsewhere to be destroyed.
Hoekman says route trucks will bring waste from hospitals to fill semi-trailers at the site, to be hauled away when they’re full.
