Driveway snow reduced, not eliminated

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The city says the 5 plus inches of snow in Sioux Falls is about the limit for snow gates.

Street Manager Galen Huber says another 2 to 3 inches of snow and the gates would have been pulled.  He says some snow spilled over the gates reducing, but no eliminating, windrow snow from residential driveways.

Huber says the biggest obstacle grader operators have to contend with is parked cars.  He says it's difficult to manuever around them and raise and lower snow gates.  He says that's how streets become narrower as the snow season continues.

He says snow gates will be used during snow alerts only and not during maintenance.

Police are ticketing cars parked on unplowed streets and owners have 24 hours to get them off the streets or they’ll be towed.
