SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Senate Transportation committee sent to the floor a bill increasing the speed limit on two-lane highways by ten miles an hour when passing.
It's an act authorizing motor vehicles to exceed the 65 mile an hour posted speed limit when passing a slower vehicle.
The posted speed limit must be 65 on a two-lane state road and interstates are exempt.
A lawmaker on the panel asked if he passes doing 80 and is pulled over does he face a ticket for 15 over or 5 over. One of the bill's sponsors said under the bill, if passed, it would be for 5 over.
The bill has passed the House and is now on the way to the Senate. A spokesman from the governor's office gave proponent testimony to the measure today..
