SIOUX FALLS, S,D, (KELO AM) - There are two fatalities in a Brandon house fire last night.
Brandon Police Chief David Kull says the homeowner, 47-year-old David Smith was taken to a Sioux Falls hospital where he died of his injuries.
Kull says Valley Springs volunteer firefighter 38-year-old Steven Ackerman also died in the home. His body was recovered in the basement of the home.
Kull says Smith and his daughter were sleeping at the time ofthe fire. She awoke when the smoke alarm sounded and tried to wake her father. She went to the neighbors for help and they tried to get into to the house but were turned back by smoke and fire.
There's no word on how the fire started.
