Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) – The hotly debated school start date issue brought voters out in droves for Tuesday’s school board election, an event that’s usually ho-hum to voters. Unofficial number show 13,127 ballots were cast, including just over 600 absentee ballots.
After all 14 precincts were counted, it was determined that Sioux Falls schools will open for classes following Labor Day in August and Todd Thoelke and Kate Parker will each serve a 3 year term on the board. Parker lead the way with 38% of the vote, Thoelke had 36%, and Randy Dobberpuhl finished a distant 3rd at 26%.
Late Tuesday night Sioux Falls Schools released the proposed revised calendar, which can be viewed here. Full election results can be viewed here.
Results were tabulated just after 9PM on Tuesday, with no major hiccups. A few ballots that were folded did jam the machines, however that did not have a major impact on the release of the results a la last November’s election debacle. One poling center did remain open past seven because of a hiccup in their poll books, several voters were still lined up to get ballots past 7PM.
