SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - A hostage situation on West 41st Street ended peacefully last night when the suspect surrendered after his wife got out of the apartment.
43-year-old Ronald Haugen is charged with aggravated assault in the incident that began just after nine.
Haugen’s wife had called relatives to say her husband was suicidal and armed with a rifle and shotgun.
Relatives called police who got the victim out of the apartment and began evacuating neighbors.
Haugen surrendered unarmed to SWAT. Haugen is on a 24 hour mental health hold.
