Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls City Council is considering a pilot program to give school children free or reduced passes on public buses this summer.
Council will be quickly working on rules and guidelines to try to put the program on a fast track.
Counciler Kenny Anderson Jr. says teaching kids how to ride the buses now may lead to increased ridership in the future. Council Chairman Dean Karsky agrees that getting more kids on the buses now could increase ridership long term.
Counciler Michelle Erpenbach says a free ride comes with responsiblity so wants guidelines similar to those children must follow at the public pools.
Council believes that the pilot program would cost little to nothing as the buses will be running anyway.
