Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - The City of Sioux Falls hosted the second annual community-wide Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup on Saturday, May 16. Volunteers of all ages helped clean up the river and its banks to ensure they were in top-notch condition for summer events and activities.
Despite the early morning rain, more than 150 volunteers helped remove 2,500 pounds of trash and 1,500 pounds of recyclables from the banks of the Big Sioux River and Skunk Creek at 14 different volunteer locations. For the first time, the event covered the entirety of the city’s bike trail.
A special thanks to the following organizations for helping with this year’s event: Confluence, Health Management Partners of South Dakota, Scheels All Sports, Feeding South Dakota, Argus Leader Media, John Morrell & Company, Raven Industries, Howalt + McDowell Insurance, Sioux Steel Company, Sierra Club, Avera McKennan Fitness Center, Midcontinent Communications, HDR, US Bank, FedEx, and the South Dakota Canoe and Kayak Association. We’d also like to recognize Nyberg’s Ace for generously donating all of the supplies for the event.
