Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) State Veterinarian Dr. Dustin Oedekoven says another South Dakota poultry farm has a presumptive positive test for the H5N2 bird flu. The virus is rapidly spreading through chicken and turkey production areas. The main method of viral spread is beliveved to be migratory birds. Dr. Oedekoven says the Moody County turkey facility houses 50 thousand birds. The birds will be euthanized to prevent spread of the virus. So far, ten facilities in the state have been impacted. In total, more than 1.7 million birds have been affected. Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin have also been hard hit with the virus, causing officials to activate state and federal response plans to deal with the outbreak.
