SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Voters in Mitchell and Rapid City fired incumbent mayors in yesterday’s elections.
Challenger Jerry Toomey beat Mitchell Mayor Ken Tracy by 400 votes. Toomey says residents identified with his campaign of the City spending too much. He says there's a difference between needs and priorities.
In Rapid City, former police chief Steve Allender beat two-term incumbent Mayor Sam Kooiker.
Rapid City voters also turned back the school district's efforts to opt out of the property tax freeze.
