SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Several towns in South Dakota had their wettest May on record easing some out of drought.
S-D-S-U Extension Climate Field Specialist Laura Edwards says the May totals were a sharp contrast to the first four months of the year.
Edwards says El Nino will play a part in this summer’s weather. She says some models are leaning a little more on the wet side and some models show temperatures a little less than normal too.
Sioux Falls got four inches of rain last month, six-tenths of an inch above normal. The north central and southwest parts of South Dakota were the wettest in May. Mobridge recorded over nine inches of rain in May, setting the record for the wettest month ever.
