SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -The Internal Revenue Service is shortening taxpayer response times to an audit to fifteen days.

Tim Ness, of Ness Tax and Bookkeeping, says this is the exam that causes most taxpayers stress.

Ness says if a taxpayer doesn't respond to the audit in fifteen days, the IRS will send a report detailing the estimated taxes owed.  He says that report comes on the heels of failing to provide the agency with the proper documentation.

Ness says the I-R-S audit rate is one percent.
