Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is proposing major increases in the cost of summer outdoor pool passes and has revealed the proposed rate structure for the new indoor aquatic center. City Council got its' first look at the proposed rates Tuesday.
For the new indoor facility at Spellerberg, daily fees would be $6 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. There would also be punch passes up to $200 and an individual annual pass of $300. City Finance Director Tracy Turbak expects the user fees to cover about 70% of the annual cost of operating the new facility.
All types of outdoor passes would go up - child, adult, senior, family - and some more than others. For example, a family outdoor pool pass now at $70 would jump to $150 by 2018. The child pass would go from $15 to $60 over three years. Free passes for low income families would be eliminated and replaced with reduced prices. Turbak says that the current rates cover only about 25 percent of the annual operating costs of the outdoor pools. He says the higher user fees would bring it to a 50-50 split.
