Low teacher pay in SD not attractive to best/brightest

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The head of the South Dakota Education Association says education funding in the state doesn’t encourage the best and brightest to get into education.

Mary McCorkle says there’s an awareness of the issue of teacher pay.

McCorkle says whether that means the funding formula is not working or the way that South Dakota funds education needs to be revamped, she's not sure what that will look like.             

McCorkle says it will be up to Governor Daugaard’s Blue Ribbon to make any recommendations in education funding.
