SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO AM and KWSN)- Sioux Falls stadium has been garnishing some nation attention over the last couple of weeks thanks to a social media contest being ran by Ballparkdigest.com ranking the top baseball stadiums in all of independent baseball.
Sioux Falls Stadium might be one of the oldest ballparks in this contest (51 years old), but it still has plenty to offer to fans who are looking to experience baseball done right. Renovations in the late 1990’s included new luxury box suites, an expanded picnic area and a new grass berm down the third base line. The ballpark exterior features two ticket entrances and a beautiful brick wall that surrounds the exterior. The ballpark has the capacity to seat around 4,500 fans with two levels of seating split with a walk way, allowing fans to catch every second of the action.
The website dedicated to all things baseball initially ranked “The Birdcage” at #21 in their list of the top 32 stadiums in independent baseball, and then left it up to the fans to determine which stadium reigns supreme.
Sioux Falls Stadium advanced to the second round after a minor upset over the 12th ranked, Santander Stadium in York, Pennsylvania, home of the Atlantic League’s York Revolution.
Another strong fan voting pushed the Birdcage into the third round after a major upset over 5th ranked Le Stade Municipal, home of the Quebec Capitales in the Can-Am League.
The Fans voted Sioux Falls Stadium into the Final-Four after knocking “The Railyard” in Gary, Indiana, home of the American Association’s Gary-Southshore RailCats.
