SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Forecasters from the Sioux Falls National Weather Service are on the scene in Garretson.
Todd Heitkamp says early indications are that damage was caused by a gust front producing straight line winds. Heitkamp says damage was widespread throughout the tri-state area.
The National Weather Service says straight line winds between 80 to 100 miles an hour caused most of the damage in Minnehaha County this morning.
Heitkamp says the severe thunderstorm warning was issued at 4:40 this morning and most of the damage in Garretson happened around 5 a.m. so he says residents had about 20 minutes of lead time.
Heitkamp is in Garretson surveying the damage.
