Garretson still closed to the public

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Garretson is still closed to everyone except emergency responders this afternoon after winds up to 100 miles an hour whipped through town this morning.

Minnehaha County Emergency Manager Lynn DeYoung says because the storm happened overnight everyone was in their place of shelter.

Straight line winds whipped through northeast Minnehaha County early this morning causing substantial damage.

Minnehaha County Emergency Manager Lynn DeYoung says the most severe damage is in the Garretson area.

DeYoung says responders are going door to door checking on residents.  There are no reports of injuries.
