Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether is concerned about a freebie mentality taking hold in the city as it has in Washington D.C.
Huether's comments come as City Council pushes back against eliminating free pool passes for low income families and as it announces the new pilot program for free bus passes for children this summer.
Huether says 52 percent of the people swimming in city pools are swimming for free. He says residents should have "skin in the game" using the pools. He remembers when he was a kid, collecting cans and pop bottles to raise the money to get into the pools.
The administration's proposed new pool rate structure replaces free passes with reduced rates for needy families.
