SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - While many South Dakota school districts are wringing hands over a teacher shortage, the problem is not as severe in Sioux Falls.
But, School Board President Kent Alberty says border states offer more pay.
Alberty says starting pay for teachers in Iowa and Minnesota is about $10,000 more in either state and he says the district is losing people to the border states.
At last count, the School Administrators of South Dakota says over 250 teaching positions remained opened at the end of May.
South Dakota ranks last in the nation in average teacher pay.
