SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO AM) - The Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls is working to pick up the pieces of their summer kids programs after a fire destroyed nearly 20 thousand dollars of equipment.
Friday night's fire took out the boat shack at the Outdoor Campus along with nearly 30 kayaks and canoes.
The fire also destroyed dozens of life jackets and paddles that all play a crucial role in summer programs at the Outdoor Campus.
According to KSFY TV, The Game Fish and Parks Outdoor Campus Director Thea Miller says two police officers noticed smoke coming from the grounds late last night, but by the time Sioux Falls fire rescue arrived to the boat shack, it was too late to save anything inside.
While fire inspectors are still investigating the official cause of the fire, Ryan believes vandals are to blame.
Many are asking that same question today as they see the damage and wonder how all of the summer programs can continue.
Ryan says the Outdoor Campus has received an outpouring of support from the community, many people are offering donations and loaner water gear to support the programs throughout the summer.
