Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls 2016 state legislative priorities include going to bat in a big way for budget-strapped Minnehaha County. Council votes on the priorities Tuesday night.
The priorities list includes support for allowing Minnehaha and other counties a drink tax to raise additional revenue. County Commission Chair, Cindy Heiberger, says a drink tax of a couple of pennies is appropriate as most of the cases in the overcrowded county jail are alcohol-related.
Minnehaha recently voted to raise the property tax to help close a budget shortfall. Heiberger says she is very happy that the city will be on the county's side in Pierre next year.
