2nd Annual Peach Festival benefits Special Olympics

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Organizers expect 50-thousand people will go to this weekend’s second annual Peach Festival at Yankton Trail Park.

The festival benefits Special Olympics South Dakota and C-E-O Darryl Nordquist says that was good for ten-thousand dollars last year.

Nordquist says what Fruit Club, the Peach Fesitval sponors, wants to focus on is the Special Olympic's young athlete program.  He says the nationwide program is new to South Dakota and if for kids ages two to seven.  Special Olympic athletes start competitive sports at age eight.           

Loads of freshly picked peaches are trucked in from Peach County, Georgia.  The Festival features a gigantic peach cobbler.
