Planning it smart with buses

Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) As growing Sioux Falls plans expanding the public bus system, City Counciler Greg Jamison says maybe the plan needs to be turned "upside down."

What Jamison means is that the city should go back to a "core" system that provides excellent service in the downtown area and then grow it from there. He says the buses are safe, but oftentimes not very convenient since riders may have to wait too long at the stops.

Jamison and City Counciler Kermit Staggers both say that a bus route should not be added simply because the area currently doesn't have a route. Staggers says maybe people in the area proposed for a new route wouldn't even use the buses.

In the proposed new city budget, the Huether Administration calls for expanding bus routes without specifying where the new routes should be.
