SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says pavement repair work will begin in the southbound lanes of I-229 from the Benson Road interchange (Exit 9) to the Louise Ave. interchange (Exit 1) on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The project includes of removing areas of damaged concrete and replacing with new concrete pavement. This is the same work that is currently ongoing n the northbound lanes of I-229.
Traffic will be maintained with the use of lane closures through the work areas until about mid-September.
This work will affect the morning and afternoon traffic commutes and motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes as traffic congestion and delays will be encountered in the work areas.
Motorists are advised to remain alert for suddenly slowing and stopped traffic and equipment and workers adjacent to the driving lane.
The overall project is anticipated to be completed by mid-October 2015.
The prime contractor for the $3.8 million project is Interstate Improvement Inc. of Faribault, Minnesota.
