Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - School will be starting soon, and with fall approaching, Sioux Falls outdoor pools will gradually be closing, starting this weekend.
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation announces tentative closure dates for the outdoor public pools:
Friday, August 14 Frank Olson Pool
Sunday, August 16 Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center
Friday, August 21 McKennan Wading Pool
Sunday, August 23 Drake Springs Family Aquatic Center
Sunday, September 6 Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center
Sunday, September 6 Kuehn Park Pool
“Each year, staffing for the outdoor public pools determines the operational hours and closing dates. Many of our lifeguards are heading back to college or starting fall sports,” says Recreation Manager Alicia Luther. “This year’s closing dates are consistent with our schedules from previous years. Every year our goal is to keep one or two pools open until the Sunday before Labor Day.”
Due to changes in daylight hours and staffing needs, operational hours for the outdoor public pools also will be changing. Monday, August 17, through Sunday, August 23, the pools will be open daily from 1 to 8 p.m.
Beginning Monday, August 24, through the end of the season, the pools will be open:
• Monday through Friday, 4 to 8 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 8 p.m.
Pioneer Spray Park located at East Pine Street and North Jessica Avenue will remain open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily into September, weather permitting.
Two fun events to close out the outdoor pool season are also planned. Swimming Gone to the Dogs will take place at two times and locations:
• Tuesday, August 18, 2015, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center
• Wednesday, September 9, 2015, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Terrace Park Family Aquatic Center
