VERMILLION (KELO AM) - University of South Dakota faculty and staff will welcome students to campus for the Fall 2015 semester Friday with a variety of Move-In Day activities and several improvements to campus.
Housing is at 100 percent capacity, said Kimberly Grieve, vice president and dean of students. All residence halls were painted this summer and many received other upgrades. A new convenience store and Papa John’s restaurant in Beede Hall, which is in the North Complex, will open on Friday. Also new this fall: all washers and dryers in the residence halls now only accept payment from student Coyote Cards (no more quarters).
Move-in Day begins at 7 a.m. Friday at the DakotaDome parking lot where students and their families check in at their assigned time, receive their information packets, keys and instructions on driving to the residence halls. Nearly 800 student volunteers in red shirts will be on hand to help move in everyone. The system eliminates long lines, waiting and potential traffic congestion on campus. At 4:30 p.m. Friday, Grieve, President James W. Abbott, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs James Moran and Student Government Association President Sami Zoss will formally welcome the Class of 2019 and their families to campus with a processional from the North Complex and a New Student Convocation in the DakotaDome. Additional Welcome Week 2015 events include a parent’s reception, the Provost’s Picnic, a USD Block Party, Coyotepalooza, a Student Organization Fair, a Graffiti Dance, fraternity and sorority recruitment activities, and much more.
