Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Each and every crack and pothole in each and every street in Sioux Falls will be recorded by a specially outfitted passenger van with a big white box in front full of lasers.
The city's first ever automated pavement survey is being conducted by Infrastructure Management Services. Zac Thomason with IMS says the special van will cruise at normal speeds across every street in town, basically ranking the health of every segment of pavement. He says the potholes will be measured for size and severity. There are about 800 miles of road in Sioux Falls.
The city will use the high tech survey to better prepare maintenance schedules...to basically determine which pothole to fix next.
