Most of County's budget increase goes to roads

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Minnehaha County Commission approved an over $79.5 million budget yesterday, an increase of $7.5 million over last year.

Chairwoman Cindy Heiberger says the Commission spent many hours fine tuning the budget.

Heiberger applauded department heads for bring as conservative a budget as possible and still continue operating their departments at a fully functional level.               

Of the increase, $5.5 million goes to the county highway department.

The budget uses $1.5 million of the $3.5 million opt out Commissioners approved in July.
