Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum has announced it has received an award from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The zoo has been awarded the AZA Top Honors Award for Exhibit Design for the Snow Monkey Exhibit. The award was given for zoos with operating budgets under $5 million dollars.
The Great Plains Zoo is one of only 13 U.S. zoos to care for Japanese Macaques. South Dakota’s cold winter climate is well-suited for a Macaque exhibit as Snow Monkeys are native to the snowy mountains of Japan
The exhibit was completed in 2013.
More information on the award can be found on the Great PlainsZoo website.
