SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - There’s an inherent tension between the federal government and states which is most pronounced in western states.
Governor Daugaard testifying before the House Committee on Natural Resources today said the Endangered Species Act needs improvement.
Daugaard used the Topeka Shiner, a small fish, as an example. He says the Shiner has been listed as endangered for 16 years but the Fish and Wildlife Service has never given the state a plan of action on how bring the fish off the list. Plus, Daugaard says, the Topeka Shiner is plentiful in South Dakota.
Other members of the Western Governors’ Association also testified about managing their states’ natural resources.
