SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Aquifer Mapping Project News Conference on Monday What: News conference to announce a state-of-the-art groundwater survey beginning next week When: Monday, October 5, 2015 2 p.m. Where: Water Purification Plant 2000 North Minnesota Avenue Parking will be provided on the west side of the building. Who: Mark Cotter, Director of Public Works, City of Sioux Falls Mark Anderson, Director of the South Dakota Water Science Center, United States Geological Survey Amir H. Soltanzadeh, P.Eng, Project Manager Multi-Physics, CGG Canada Services Why: The City of Sioux Falls and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) are conducting a state-of-the-art groundwater survey beginning next week. CGG Canada Services, who is under contract with the City, will begin flying a helicopter over the Big Sioux Aquifer to collect, record, and map its geophysical measurements. The study will determine groundwater, soil, and sand characteristics to help in the future planning of water access points. Visuals: Helicopter towing a large cylindrical sensor, typically called a “bird” Helicopter will land at 2 p.m. on the north side of the plant, weather permitting.
