SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Just over 20% of next year’s Minnehaha County general fund will be paid by the opt out.
Auditor Bob Litz says projections show that by 2033 the fund gap will be just over 29%.
Litz, while briefing commissioners on the projections Tuesday, said "we (the county) are headed for a train wreck." He added that he compares the funding issue to a train that's riding through the sand and slowly getting bogged down.
The current opt out will carry the county funding gap to 2018.
